LRT crash: Probe still looking at other factors besides human error, says Wee

Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said investigations into the LRT crash on Monday night are looking at other factors besides human error.

"The ministry wishes to address widening perceptions that 'human error' has been conclusively determined as a cause of the tragic accident involving two LRT Kelana Jaya trains.

"This is less than correct. I wish to clarify that ‘human factor’ is merely a single facet in an investigation of this nature, which also takes into consideration an entire range of technical and operational components,” he said.

Previously, Wee said preliminary investigations into the LRT collision in the underground tunnel between the KLCC and Kampung Baru stations revealed an element of "negligence" by the driver in manually controlling one of the trains.

The Land Public Transport Agency found that the empty train TR240 was moving in the wrong direction and collided with TR181 on the same track.

In his statement today, the minister called for the public to be patient and to give space for the committee investigating the accident to do their work.

The committee is headed by Transport Ministry secretary-general Isham Ishak.

Meanwhile, Wee said of the six victims still in hospital, three remained in critical care, while three others were still being treated.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, three of those in critical care had bleeding in the brain.

A total of 213 passengers were involved in the accident, 67 of whom were treated. - Mkini
