Medical NGO calls for volunteers to help out vaccine centres in Shah Alam

 

A medical NGO has called for volunteers to assist the operation at the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) and vaccine dispensing centres (PPV) in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia’s Response and Relief Team (Imaret) is looking for volunteers with a medical and non-medical background.

Its chief coordinator Dr Ahmad Munawwar Helmi Salim said Imaret has been recruiting 30 volunteers every day to help the operation at the Malawati Stadium which receives up to 1,500 patients a day.

"We need volunteers with a medical background, like doctors, nurses and medical assistants to screen the patients and check the vital signs, while those with the non-medical background can do the registration work and manage the crowd at the entrance," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Imaret is the only NGO that sent volunteers to the CAC at Malawati Stadium since three weeks ago.

Munawwar said Imaret will also need volunteers to help out the Health Ministry's operation at the IDCC Ideal Convention Centre next week.

"We need ten volunteers at IDCC's PPV. We are looking at the possibility of sending volunteers to a PPV in Klang," he said.

Apart from that, he said Imaret helped out at the CAC in Hulu Langat and Gombak on contact tracing.

"Last year, we sent food and personal protective equipment (PPE) to the frontline health workers. But this year, the country no longer faces a shortage of medical equipment and supplies, but many of them are burned out.

"So, we decided to support them in providing manpower, thus our volunteer programme," said Munawwar, who pledged that Imaret would continue with the programme as long as they are needed.

He encouraged the public to do volunteer work at the nearest healthcare facility.

"I am a doctor myself and my wife is a doctor at a Covid-19 hospital. The public's help is welcomed," he said.
