More areas in Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, Sarawak under EMCO

The enhanced movement control order is to enable authorities to better control the spread of the virus.

PETALING JAYA: More localities in Negeri Sembilan, Sabah and Sarawak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from May 31 to June 13.

This follows a spike in Covid-19 cases there, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In Negeri Sembilan, the Juasseh subdistrict in Kuala Pilah will be placed under EMCO.

The three residential areas affected are Taman Desa Permai, Rumah Rakyat Juasseh and Taman Sri Juasseh.

Ismail said the localities had recorded 51 positive cases recently.

In Sabah, Felda Sahabat 40 in the Tungku subdistrict, Lahad, will also be placed under EMCO after 10 positive cases were detected from the 28 people screened.

Kampung Padawan, Papar, in Sabah, will be placed under EMCO after nine positive cases were recorded during the screening of 238 people.

In Sarawak, Ulu Sungai Sebakong in Mukah will be placed under EMCO.

The three longhouses affected are Rimong anak Kilat, Asin anak Aji and Bija anak Unggang.

Ismail said these localities had recorded 35 positive cases during the screening of 93 people.

The minister also said police arrested 617 people yesterday for MCO-related offences, with 579 issued compound fines and 38 remanded.

The offences included failing to wear face masks (118), crossing state or district lines without permission (112), failing to observe physical distancing (111), failing to register personal details prior to entering premises (77), flouting movement restrictions (66), participating in activities at entertainment centres (1), and others (122).

Ismail said police also arrested 32 illegal immigrants and seized 12 vehicles under the ongoing Op Benteng.

He added that the EMCO in two areas in Pahang — Seri Kemunting in Kuantan and Kampung Paya Teh in Jerantut — will end tomorrow. - FMT
