PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has paid his fines for breaching Covid-19 SOPs before going into a chicken rice shop in Kuala Lumpur recently.

In a video that went viral in March, the Pekan MP was seen being ushered to his seat immediately after he arrived at the popular Chee Meng Hainanese chicken rice shop, where he failed to take his temperature and register manually or via the MySejahtera app before entering the premises.

“Paying the compound. It was my mistake the other day not to scan,” he said in a post on Facebook today.

“I admit it and I accept the fine.

“I don’t want there to be any double standards. I don’t know about the others,” he added in a thinly veiled criticism of VIPs who allegedly flouted SOPs but escaped punishment.

Last week, Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said Najib would be fined a total of RM3,000 for offences under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Meanwhile, the shop manager, Yeok Wei Hao, was fined RM10,000 for failing to instruct Najib to register.

It is uncertain as to the exact amount Najib paid today.

In a previous Facebook post, Najib said he would pay the fines within seven days to get the “early-bird discount” rate of RM750. - FMT
