Netizens slam celebrity after allegedly receiving out-of-state guests

Songstress Siti Nurhaliza's tahnik ceremony for her second child has courted controversy after netizens claimed that some prominent guests had breached the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) to attend the event.

Tahnik is an Islamic ceremony to celebrate and welcome a newborn.

As seen from her social media, prominent figures who were at the 42-year-old celebrity's event to welcome her baby Muhammad Afwa include De Facto Religious Minister Zulkifli Mohamad and celebrity preachers such as Azhar Idrus, Don Daniyal, and Iqbal Zain.

However, some netizens had questioned the presence of Zulkifli and Azhar as both were said to have stayed outside of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The ceremony was believed to have taken place in Bukit Antarabangsa, Selangor.

Under the SOP, interstate travel is still not allowed with the exception to emergency and work purposes.

As a result, netizens had also trained their guns to Siti for having guests purportedly from outside of the state.

A Twitter user @FiqhTabayyun had raised a double standard in the enforcement between VIPs and ordinary folk.

"Tok Ti (Siti), while many praised the birth of Afwa, there are those who are oppressed, cannot visit their ailing parents...(they) pray a bad thing for your family, just imagine, if prayers of these oppressed are answered," said the user.

There are users who also urge authorities to take action against Siti and her family for breaching the Covid-19 SOP.

"I hope the police can slap summons to Tok Ti and family. Before this, they had organised many events but there was no action…just look at her Instagram posts," said a user @Bad_Arsila.

This is not the first time a controversy regarding Covid-19 SOP happened to Siti.

Prior to this, her stepson Asyraf Khalid had uploaded pictures of many guests visiting Siti at a hospital in Selangor after she gave birth.

After receiving a backlash, Asyraf and his wife Tya Ariffin removed the pictures and apologised to Siti for uploading the pictures.

Some netizens had also highlighted Zulkifli, who they said had consistently breached the SOP.

"This superspreader minister is 'immune'…I think he is one of the ministers who consistently breach SOP," said a user @am_salleh. - Mkini
