KUANTAN: Pahang is set for state-wide Movement Control Order (MCO) if the number of Covid-19 cases does not display a downward trend.
Describing the increasing figures as worrying, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state government will not hesitate to implement strict measures including the MCO if the Covid-19 situation does not show any improvement.
"Earlier today I was informed by the State Disaster Management Committee that the cases have been increasing over the past two weeks. The planned MCO will be similar to the one imposed by the federal government in two sub-districts in Raub, namely Gali and Tras.
"Currently 354 cases of active infectivity were reported till yesterday (May 3) at four red zone districts namely Bentong, Kuantan, Temerloh and Raub. My concern is the cases in Kuantan which continue to spike without displaying signs of improvements," he said in a statement today.
He said till noon today, Kuantan recorded 143 active cases from nine clusters and the cumulative positive cases currently stands at 1,470 while there were 647 pending test result.
Wan Rosdy said records showed 1,942 individuals from 11 districts across the state had been ordered to be on home quarantine.
Meanwhile, he said the two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Taman Tanah Putih Baru here starting tomorrow(May 5) was imposed to prevent the spread of infection in the community believed resulted during the breaking of fast and moreh (supper after the tarawih) at a mosque.
"Failure to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) might have resulted in the infection. I hope the people especially those in Kuantan will comply with the safety measures," he said.
Wan Rosdy advised the public to limit activities that involve mass gathering, postpone inter-district travel, adhere to the SOP imposed by the Pahang Islamic Religious Department, maintain physical distancing at food premises and reduce the crowd capacity at Ramadan Bazaars. - NST
