A police report has been lodged over the audio recording of Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin discussing the appointment of his "boy" in the police force.
The police report was lodged by the pro-tem head of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's women wing Che Asmah Ibrahim at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday.
Also included in the police report was former inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador's criticism of Hamzah for political interference.
"I am concerned that there are elements of abuse of power, corruption and political interference for the personal interest of certain individuals in the Perikatan Nasional-BN government," she said in a statement.
Che Asmah also hoped the police will investigate Hamzah even though he is the minister in charge of the police force.
Hamzah admitted that he was the person in the audio recording but maintained that he had done nothing wrong.
In the recording, Hamzah had discussed appointing "our boy" in the police force as it will be "very good for us".
Hamid had since revealed that Hamzah wanted to replace the head of the Special Branch, which is the police's intelligence unit.
This was after the Special Branch purportedly snubbed Hamzah's request to conduct political operations for him and instead reported him to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hamid said following the incident, Hamzah wanted to appoint his "boy" to head the Special Branch.
Mohamed Farid Abu Hassan is currently the Special Branch chief. He was appointed in June 2019.
Meanwhile, Amanah Youth chief Shazni Munir, who is also the Pakatan Harapan Youth chief, will also be lodging a report with the MACC on the matter this afternoon. - Mkini
