Prasarana still trying to identify 83 victims, wants them to come forward

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad said it is still trying to identify 83 out of 213 victims from Monday's LRT crash under a tunnel near Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

It urged them to come forward so that they can be provided with the necessary assistance.

"Prasarana hopes all passengers involved (in the incident) who have not contacted us can come forward.

"This information is necessary for Prasarana to coordinate the assistance that was previously announced," said Prasarana group chief executive officer Norlia Noah.

They should contact Prasarana at 014-7371330 or recovery2021@prasarana.com.my.

Victims who need free counselling services can also contact the number and email above.

Prasarana said it was paying out "goodwill payment" to the victims and they will be distributed once the victim's information is confirmed.

The firm previously said it was paying out RM1,000 to each victim and will cover all medical and treatment costs.

Prasarana, in a Facebook post, also urged victims of the incident to come forward to claim their lost possessions.

The underground tunnel collision happened on Monday at 8.33pm involving train number 240 and 181 that were plying the Kelana Jaya line.

The Gombak-bound train 181 from KLCC with 213 passengers, moving at 40km/hour, collided with an empty train 240 - with one driver and operator - moving at 20km/hour from the opposite direction on the same track.

Prasarana said a total of 67 people were treated in the hospital while the rest suffered light or no injuries.

Of the 67, five are still in the hospital. Two of them are in the intensive care unit while another three are in the normal ward and are expected to be released in two to seven days.

Norlia apologised for the incident and also thanked all personnel involved in the rescue operation.

She promised to cooperate with the investigation into the accident.

The Kelana Jaya LRT line resumed full operations at 3.45pm yesterday. - Mkini
