Rocker Awie to be summoned for possible SOP violation during singalong

Malacca police will summon several individuals, including celebrity and rock singer Ahmad Azhar Othman, better known as Awie, to assist in the investigation into a case of violating standard operating procedures (SOP) by participating in a singalong without the use of a face mask and failing to maintain social distancing.

Bernama reported Malacca Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohd Sukri Kaman as saying the organiser of the programme would also be called to assist in investigations conducted in accordance with Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and Regulation 18, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Rehabilitation Movement) Regulations (No. 3) 2021.

"Malacca police received a report at about 12.43am yesterday regarding a 42-second video clip that was spread on social media showing Awie and several other individuals, seen violating movement control order (MCO) SOPs while attending a humanitarian mission ceremony at a hotel

"Therefore, all those involved in this case will be called in the near future to the Malacca Tengah district police headquarters to give statements and the investigation will be completed before being referred to the Malacca state prosecutor's office, he said in a statement today.

He also requested that individuals who were involved or had information related to the performance assist in the investigation.

In the video which has since gone viral, Awie was seen singing with participants at a ceremony at a hotel.

Awie has had great success both as the lead singer of hard rock band Wings and as a solo artist, bagging more than 10 hit albums collectively. - Mkini
