Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has urged MPs and state assemblypersons to meet over Covid-19 prevention measures and other problems faced by his subjects.
In a statement today, the ruler said that he was aware that the Johor legislative assembly cannot be convened, but a meeting can be held in other forms and chaired by the menteri besar.
“Through this discussion, all MPs and state assemblypersons can air their views on ways to stop the spread of Covid-19 and solve problems faced by Bangsa Johor,” decreed the ruler.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Johor has been generally under control between March and April after peaking in January.
However, in May, the number of new cases in the state has been on the uptrend and reached 699 yesterday.
In March, Penang held an informal engagement session with lawmakers which was chaired by the chief minister, which surprisingly saw the participation of BN lawmakers.
Perikatan Nasional lawmakers were, however, absent.
Currently the movement control order and proclamation of emergency has allowed most businesses to operate, except the business of legislating. - Mkini
