Police have launched an investigation on the family of a celebrity couple believed to have breached movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
According to Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar, police received a report last night over a viral video clip (above) showing the family having a gathering to celebrate Hari Raya at a house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
The police officer declined to confirm the identity of the couple but it is understood that the investigation involves the family of Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and her husband Haris Ismail.
"From the initial investigations, police found that the viral video clip of 26 seconds was uploaded onto Instagram by the elder sister of the celebrity. The video shows family members of the celebrity gathering at a house during the first day of Raya.
"This video had since been shared by netizens on Twitter. The case is still under police investigation," Anuar said in a statement.
It is learnt that police have called in Neelofa's father to give his statement. He was seen entering the Brickfields district police headquarters at 2.40pm in a Toyota Alphard.
Anuar also urged the public to give room for police to complete their investigations.
Under the third MCO which came into effect on May 12, the government had banned gatherings including house visits during the Hari Raya celebrations.
It was reported that members of Neelofa and Haris' families were seen hugging each other and shaking hands in the video clip.
The video was allegedly shared by Neelofa's sister Noor Nabila but has since been deleted.
Besides Neelofa, also seen in the video were Nabila and her husband Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin, his daughter Engku Aleesya, Neelofa's mother Noor Kartini Noor Mohamed and Kartini's husband Abdul Halim Khan Lall Khan.
Other celebrities too
Neelofa and her husband are not the only celebrities who had come under scrutiny for allegedly breaching MCO SOPs during the festive season.
According to Malay daily Kosmo!, actor Norman Hakim and his former wife Abby Abadi were under the spotlight after Norman shared a photograph (above) of their separate families from current marriages celebrating Hari Raya together.
The photo showed a total of 13 individuals including Norman's wife Memey Suhaiza and Abby's husband. Also in the picture are their children.
Celebrity entrepreneur Rozita Che Wan is another actor who uploaded several photos on Instagram showing three generations of her family posing during Hari Raya.
The photo (above) had 16 people in it including seven children. Among those pictured were Rozita, her husband Zain Saidin, their children and Rozita's mother. - Mkini
