Syed Saddiq questioned for almost three hours over video on death of detainee

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Police spent almost three hours quizzing Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman over a video he posted on Instagram.

Bukit Aman CID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said police took a statement from the former Youth and Sports minister at Dang Wangi police headquarters at around 10am on Saturday (May 22).

"He was asked to assist investigations involving a 57-second video clip titled #JusticeforGanapathy which was posted on his Instagram account.

"We seized an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a SIM card," he said, adding that the case was being investigated for causing fear or public anxiousness and misuse of networks or networking services.

He said the case was being investigated by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigations Unit (USJT).

After walking out of the police headquarters at 12.47pm, the Muar MP said he would give police full cooperation in their investigations over a video he had posted on his Instagram account.

"I was told the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act and Section 503b of the Penal Code.

"My mobile phone and Instagram account were also seized by the police on the instructions of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission," he told reporters.

He said the video posted was on urging the government to set up the Independent Police Complaints of Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) after the death of A. Ganapathy in police custody. - Star
