KUALA LUMPUR: A police report has been lodged against news portals Malaysia Chronicles and Sarawak Report for linking Syed Hamzah Syed Paie, the political secretary to the entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, to the approval of a ministry grant to his wife’s company.
Syed Hamzah said he made the police report against the portals for spreading fake news and defaming him and the minister, Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said the RM338,950 grant from SME Corporation to his wife’s company Azzahra Product Sdn Bhd “does not have any connection with Wan Junaidi as minister and I as his political secretary”.
He said the grant was approved by SME Corp four years ago and they only joined the ministry in 2020.
Syed Hamzah said the reports were baseless as they had alleged that he had interests in Azzahra Product although he had resigned and sold his shares in 2015.
The reports were published in the two portals on May 3.
Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed receiving the report. - FMT
