Wife fined RM2k for visiting on-duty cop husband at roadblock

The wife of a police officer has been fined RM2,000 for visiting her husband who was on duty at a roadblock during Hari Raya.

Putrajaya district police chief Mohd Fadzil Ali, who initially denied any violation of the movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP) against Covid-19, announced the fine today.

Images of the wife's visit, together with her children, to see their father at the roadblock had gone viral on social media.

Fadzli said when the incident first happened on May 13, initial investigations showed they all live within Putrajaya and had travelled in two vehicles so as not to exceed the three-person limit, which was in accordance with the SOP.

However, he said police decided to issue an RM2,000 compound against the wife yesterday for the visit itself.

The MCO SOP does not allow for Raya visits.

"Initially, the act was seen as a wife fulfilling her responsibilities and giving her on-duty husband moral support by delivering food on Raya morning.

"However, public interest takes precedence over individual interest and the police do not want it to become an excuse for the families of all police personnel to visit family members who are on duty, be it on Raya or normal days," Fadzli said.

He stressed that police will not compromise with any breach of the MCO SOP, even if it was against its own personnel. - Mkini
