A woman who accused two associates of Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham of rape has submitted evidence to the police over alleged intimidation to withdraw her report made on last Dec 5.
She had lodged a second report on May 8 to include details of the alleged intimidation and also accused Hilman of "setting up" the rape incident at a hotel room in Sri Hartamas after her birthday dinner and a karaoke session.
Her lawyer, Asheeq Ali, told Malaysiakini that she was summoned to the Brickfields district police station at 10am today to have her statement recorded.
"The investigation today was in regard to her complaint where individuals intimidated and pressured her to withdraw her Dec 5 report.
"We handed over all the evidence of the people who met her, called her, and texted her with the threats," he said, adding that she left after about 90 minutes.
He said the evidence was linked to representatives of Hilman's associate and a Perikatan Nasional component party leader who were accused of committing the alleged rape.
"Suffice to say that the pressure she faced made her worried for her family’s and her own safety," he added.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim previously said the woman had withdrawn her report last Dec 8 but sometime in January requested for investigations to resume.
The woman in her second police report said the intimidation had led to her initial withdrawal, but after discovering Hilman's alleged role in "setting up" the rape incident, she wrote to the police on Jan 12 requesting them to reopen their investigation.
The 34-year-old has also revealed herself to be the woman seen in a grainy CCTV recording that went viral earlier this month being assisted to walk into the hotel room by a man she claimed to be Hilman. - Mkini
