PETALING JAYA: Police detained six foreign workers and fined six locals for conducting congregational Friday prayers and failing to observe social distancing at a shophouse in Ampang.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 12, aged between 23 and 60, were employees of a locally-owned business.

The foreigners, who had valid documents, have been held for further investigations, he said.

The 1.30pm raid on the premises, Farouk said, was conducted following a tip off.

Farouk said the owner of the company had been issued a compound totalling RM11,500. The locals meanwhile were fined RM1,500 each.

He went on to warn the public against flouting the SOPs under the movement control order.

“Those without any urgent business should stay at home,” he said in a statement.

Congregational Friday prayers are only allowed in mosques and suraus with minimum participants and strict SOPs. In most states and the federal territories, a maximum of 12 people are allowed. - FMT
