Azeez to head humanitarian mission to Palestine

Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been given the green light to travel abroad as head of the Humanitarian Mission 4 Palestine (HM4P) to al-Quds and Gaza, said Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

Azeez is scheduled to leave for Jordan for the mission tonight.

According to Khairul Dzaimee, Azeez submitted his application and other documents such as a Wisma Putra support letter and a court release letter to immigration last week to enable him carry out the mission.

He said the application was approved by the Special Joint Committee of the Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Law) and the home minister, which evaluated the application based on humanitarian assistance.

“There is no issue of Azeez going abroad as he had submitted his application and the relevant support letter,” he told Bernama today on the international travel involving Azeez when Malaysia is still under the movement control order (MCO).

The two-week HM4P organised by the Umno Welfare Bureau in which Azeez is the chairman, aimed to deliver food and medical aid to the two locations which came under attack by the Israeli military last month.

Azeez is facing three corruption charges on road projects in Perak and Kedah involving RM5,2 million as well as 10 charges of money laundering involving RM140 million under Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

The media had earlier reported that Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi had allowed Azeez’s application to hold his international passport from June 10 to July 20 2021 for the purpose.

Khairul Dzaimee said the approval to travel in the mission was given on the condition that there should not be more than 10 persons in the delegation apart from being subject to the current standard operating procedure (SOP).

On May 25, Deputy Foreign Minister Kamarudin Jaffar said a humanitarian mission for Palestinians planned by renown missionary Ebit Lew was approved for him to travel, subject to the current SOP.
