KOTA KINABALU: Sabah saw another new Covid-19 cluster associated with a detention centre here involving 34 cases in three districts.

Dubbed as the Tembok-Kota Kinabalu cluster, involving the Kepayan Prison centre, the index case is a 24-year-old Indonesian who had tested positive for Covid-19 on June 17.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said out of 419 samples taken, 31 cases are from here, two in Penampang and another one in Papar.

"Repeat tests will be done on those who tested negative and 133 samples are still pending results.

"The state government through the state disaster management committee has also decided that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at the Kepayan prison will be expanded to include the quarters at Kampung Matambai," he said, adding that the enforcement would begin tomorrow until July 11.

Another cluster is called Bata Durok, involving communities at Lingkudau, Luagan and Patikang in Keningau.

The index case is a 69-year-old man from Taman Keningau Ville who was found positive for Covid-19 prior to a ward admission on June 23. Further tracing found 12 cases linked to the patient.

"Based on initial investigations, the social activity of selling illegal lottery tickets is believed to have been the cause of infections that had spread to family members and eventually the community."

As for the third cluster Linau Kumpang in Kota Belud, the index case was a 40-year-old woman who had developed fever, flu and anosmia since June 11 before testing positive two days later at the district hospital.

The cluster subsequently saw 30 cases following contact tracing.

The woman, who is from Kampung Ejuk, had likely acquired the infection from the community and spread to her family at Kg Linau Kumpang on June 10.
