Covid-19 (June 14): 4,949 new cases and 60 deaths, surge in Sarawak

 

The Health Ministry today reported 4,949 new Covid-19 cases and 60 deaths.

The new locally transmitted infections comprised 81.31 percent Malaysians and 18.69 percent non-citizens.

The Klang Valley accounted for 41.19 percent (2036 cases) of the new local infections while East Malaysia made up 22.86 percent (1130 cases).

The majority of the cases remain in Selangor which recorded 1,523 new infections.

Sarawak saw a surge with 744 new cases, putting the state just behind Selangor in terms of fresh infections.

It was the highest number of new daily infections for Sarawak since May 27.

New recoveries of 6,588 outpaced fresh cases, helping to reduce the number of active cases and reducing the strain on Covid-19 hospitals.
