Ministry clarifies: Cycling not allowed during lockdown

PETALING JAYA: Cycling is not allowed during the current lockdown, says the Youth and Sports Ministry.

It clarified that all sporting and recreational activities are not allowed, with the exception of jogging and exercising within one's own neighbourhood.

These activities must be conducted with physical distancing of at least two to three metres and only between 7am and 8pm, it said in updated Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) posted on Twitter on Tuesday (June 15).

It said jogging and exercising are basic elements of all sporting and recreational activities that help to reduce pressure as well as mantain physical and mental wellbeing.

There was also no need to wear face masks during this physical activity, it added.

Only individual and static exercises without physical contact are allowed, such as skipping, running on the spot, stretching, and star jumps.

“The activities have to be done individually, on the spot, controlled, and in an open area as well as in the neighbourhood,” it said.

As for “neighbourhood”, the ministry defined it as the area close to one’s home without the need to cross to another neighbourhood.

“This is to reduce the risk of infections from spreading to other localities or areas,” it said.

For example, it mentioned a jogger in "Housing Estate A" running around the streets in his locality only without crossing over to the adjacent "Housing Estate B".

It also gave an example of an individual living in a gated community being allowed to do static exercises in any open area within his neighbourhood.

The ministry also said that e-sports are allowed, but only in one's own home. - Star
