MOF: Subang airport not for sale

The Finance Ministry has confirmed that the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at Subang as well as other local airports will not be sold.

In a statement today, the Finance Ministry said any efforts to maximise the value of Subang airport would not involve the sale of its land.

The Subang airport is one of 39 airports managed by Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) which is mostly government-owned.

MAHB's concession for the Subang Airport expires in 2067.

Subang Skypark Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of construction firm WCT Holdings Bhd, had recently submitted a proposal to Putrajaya for the company to take over the lease.

MAHB and one of its key shareholders - Khazanah Nasional Bhd - had protested against the proposal.

The Transport Ministry said the cabinet did not decide on the sale of any of Subang Airport's assets.

"The government's position is that any proposal concerning public strategic assets must be carefully evaluated," said the ministry's statement.

In view of this development, both the Finance Ministry and the Transport Ministry urged the public not to speculate on the matter further. - Mkini
