More vaccination centres in Klang Valley to ramp up vaccine delivery, says KJ

More vaccination dispensation centres (PPVs) will be opened in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur in order to ramp up vaccine supply delivery to the Klang Valley, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

This came after Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed shock yesterday at the low and “unfair” number of Covid-19 vaccines supplied to the state.

“The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) takes heed of the sultan’s decree to ensure we pay more attention to control the spread of Covid-19 in Selangor and also to give special priority to the state that has the highest population in the country.

“Vaccine supply delivery to Selangor can be increased by opening more PPVs.

“The CITF has opened a few new PPVs in Selangor, such as the Setia Alam Convention Centre, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam and a few more mega PPVs will open in Selangor soon,” Khairy said.

He was speaking at a weekly joint press conference with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba on the progress of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme (NIP). The press conference was held in Putrajaya and broadcasted via video conference and live-streaming.

Khairy also stressed that these plans by the CITF were already decided weeks ago.

Aside from the new PPVs in Selangor, there is also a new initiative using trucks as mobile PPVs, he added.

He said the pilot mobile PPV had visited PPR Muhibbah in Kuala Lumpur as well as an MRT construction site under MMC Gamuda, which is still operating throughout the movement control order (MCO).

Each location saw about 1,000 individuals vaccinated, he added.

Following the success of the pilot launch, Khairy said the CITF will deploy more mobile PPVs to focus on red zones, such as those within the Klang Valley.
