NGO lodges police report on Rubber Board's plan to lease lands

An NGO has lodged a police report today after alleging the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) planned to lease its lands purportedly at below market price.

In a statement today, Sedar Malaysia said the report was made to safeguard the public interest as billions in public fund involved.

"As the issue becomes more and more serious, two actions have been taken by Sedar Malaysia. The first action was a police report related to MRB by president Nazrin Norani at Wangsa Maju police station just now.

"Meanwhile, a formal complaint was sent to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Wong Kah Woh, along with documents," it said.

When contacted, Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah confirmed receiving a report on the controversial land issue.

"The police indeed received the report. After examining the report, this needs to be referred to the MACC for a more thorough investigation," he said in a text message.

Malaysiakini has attempted to contact the PAC chairperson for comment.

Elaborating further, Sedar Malaysia hoped that PAC would launch an investigation into the issue after the nationwide emergency is lifted and Parliament no longer suspended.

"We would like to stress that as Parliament could not convene its sitting, so many allegations of wrongdoing involving ministers have been sent to us," it said.

Sedar Malaysia claimed to possess copies of documents related to MRB's plan.

After having conducted its investigation, the NGO said it has a basis in making these allegations.

On May 28, MRB had confirmed that it had received offers for two plots of land located along Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur. However, it said no deal had been struck yet.

Meanwhile, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali was reportedly lodging a police report over allegations linking him to the land matter. - Mkini
