Central PKR delegates scheduled to convene online tomorrow will now be meeting at a yet to be announced date after the party was ordered to postpone the event, according to PKR National Congress director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Nik Nazmi said a decision to postpone the central congress was made following a formal letter received from the National Security Council (NSC) yesterday, as well as a verbal instruction from the Registrar of Societies, for the online meeting to be postponed.
"The NSC's latest instruction contradicts its letter dated May 27 that stated no objections against plans to hold the PKR National Congress online.
"PKR registers our strong protest but is forced to comply with this order.
"The PKR central leadership council has made the decision to postpone the National Congress to a future date that would be announced later," said the Setiawangsa MP in a statement today.
He added that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will be revealing further details on the postponement through the party's official Facebook page tomorrow.
Earlier today, PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir delivered his keynote address and winding-up speech to over 200 youth delegates who convened via the Zoom platform.
PKR Women, under its chief Fuziah Salleh, was the first of the party's wing to convene online yesterday. - Mkini
