One in three operational construction sites visited by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) during the “total lockdown” period did not comply with Covid-19 protocols.
In a statement today, the Works Ministry said the CIDB had ordered 150 out of 446 operational construction sites to be shut for protocol violations.
Sarawak had the highest number of violations at 45, followed by Selangor (24), Malacca (16), Penang (10), Terengganu (10), Sabah (9), Johor (7), Kuala Lumpur (6), Pahang (6), Perak (5), Kedah (4), Negeri Sembilan (4), Perlis (3) and Kelantan (1).
Eleven of these construction sites were allowed to resume work after meeting requirements.
The Works Ministry warned that contractors can be fined up to RM500,000 by CIDB or have their licence withdrawn for violating the rules.
CIDB said it had visited 2,423 construction sites since the “total lockdown” period began on June 1.
Among others, the National Security Council has mandated that construction companies reduce the number of staff on site to 60 percent.
On-site staff are also required to work in a “staggered” shift system to maintain physical distancing. - Mkini
