PKR Women will field nine more candidates for parliamentary contests in the 15th general election (GE), said the movement's chief Fuziah Salleh.
The Kuantan MP said the number is an addition to the 11 parliamentary seats won by the women’s wing during the last polls.
"We are not afraid to feature more women leaders.
“Our women leaders won 11 seats in the Dewan Rakyat last time. That is 11 PKR women MPs - although one has since betrayed us, we can replace her,” said Fuziah (above), referring to the Ampang seat held by former senior party leader Zuraida Kamaruddin.
In her speech as the wing's leader at the PKR Annual National Congress which was held online today, Fuziah said she was confident that the candidates who will represent PKR in the 20 seats will win in the next GE.
“God willing, delegates, observers, we have prepared nine more MPs who are not just candidates but (future) MPs because PKR's target for women is to be represented by 20 women MPs," she said, adding that she was confident of the level of debate and performance by the party's female leaders.
Aside from Kuantan, the parliamentary seats represented by PKR women are Pandan (Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), Permatang Pauh (Nurul Izzah Anwar), Wangsa Maju (Tan Yee Kew), Petaling Jaya (Maria Chin Abdullah), Tawau (Christina Liew), Merbok (Azrina Surip), Hulu Selangor (June Leow), Tangga Batu (Rusnah Aluai) and Sekijang (Natrah Ismail). - Mkini
