Activist Aiman Hakim has been arrested today after coming forward to have his statement recorded at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters (IPD) in Kuala Lumpur.
His lawyer Rajsurian Pillai confirmed the arrest when contacted by Malaysiakini.
“He was arrested to assist investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“He will be brought to a remand hearing tomorrow morning at the Dang Wangi police station,” he said.
It is understood that Aiman (above, right) was detained over tweets made under the Twitter handle @aimanhkim.
Earlier, he went to IPD Dang Wangi at 10am to assist investigations over postings made through the account.
“They arrested him at 1pm after taking his statement,” Rajsurian said, adding that Aiman’s phone was confiscated.
Malaysiakini has contacted the police for comment.
