Sense of unity still lacking in fight against Covid-19 - Health DG

The sense of unity among Malaysians in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic is still lacking thus contributing to the high number of positive cases, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He admitted that standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance among the public is still an issue today though the pandemic has been around for more than a year.

“I think this is lacking because there is actually discordance in terms of our unity, instead of fighting against the virus, we are fighting against each other in terms of opinion, in terms of approach, etc.,” he said.

He was delivering a speech at the inaugural Malaysia International Webinar on Psychological First Aid organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Upsi) today.

Noor Hisham said that during this crisis, every decision has been made after thorough consideration.

“When you have lives and livelihoods, a balance between health and the economy, how do you create a right balance? This is a very difficult and challenging job to have minimum impact on the economy and maximum outcome in health.

“This is why sometimes it’s not straightforward, because you need to take into consideration many other issues before a decision is made,” he said.
