Single mother allegedly raped by inspector faces drug charges

A single mother previously linked to a rape case involving a police inspector was charged today in the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court for trafficking and possession of drugs.

Also facing two charges in the same court is the woman's former husband.

On the first charge, the accused woman and man, aged 28 and 29 respectively, were charged with trafficking suspected methamphetamine weighing about 61g.

They were charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and can be punished under Section 39B (2) of the same act which provides for a mandatory death sentence.

For the second charge, the former couple allegedly had within their possession 13.6g of methamphetamine.

They were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and are punishable under Section 39A (1) of the same act which provides for imprisonment not exceeding five years and three to nine strokes of the cane. 

The accused were arrested at Kampung Bunut Payong, Kota Bharu, at about 4.20pm on June 4.

However, no confession was recorded by either of them.

The divorcee and her former husband only nodded after the charges were read out by an interpreter in front of magistrate Kamarul Hasyime Rosli.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Siti Edabayu Subhan while both the accused were not represented by counsel.

The court set Aug 15 for re-mention of the case and chemical report.

Earlier, the single mother of two claimed to have been the victim of a rape involving an investigating officer with the rank of inspector last week.

She claimed that she was brought out of the lock-up and taken to the suspect’s room at the Kota Bahru district police headquarters.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the suspect was released on police bail after being remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation into the case. - Mkini
