A total of 41kg of syabu and 720,000 yaba pills worth more than RM8.6 million were seized by the 8th Battalion General Operations Force (PGA) following a raid in Kampung Jeram Perdah, Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.
The raid was carried out under Op Benteng Covid-19 by a team of PGA officers and members around 4.30pm yesterday.
Internal Security and Public Order deputy director Kasuahdi Ali said they had monitored the residence for four hours before raiding it when a suspect entered the house.
The suspect, a 43-year-old local man, was immediately arrested.
“As a result of the raid, PGA found eight black plastic packages placed in the kitchen of the empty house.
“They also found 41kg of drugs believed to be syabu worth RM1.47 million and 720,000 yaba pills worth RM7.2 million,” he told a press conference at the Pasir Mas District police headquarters today.
Also present was Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department head Sheik Azhar Sheik Omar.
Kasuahdi said the drugs were believed to be obtained from a neighbouring country.
The yaba pills were meant to be distributed around the East Coast while the syabu was for the areas in the Klang Valley and Johor, he added.
Yaba pills contain a mix of methamphetamine and caffeine.
Kasuahdi said they were still investigating whether the suspect was merely a transporter or if he has a larger role such as leading the syndicate.
"Investigations also found that the raided residence likely belongs to the suspect's sister, but a detailed probe is still underway."
Kasuahdi said the raided syabu could be used by 410,00 addicts whereas the pills by 144,000 addicts.
He added that the suspect, who had two drug-related criminal records, was remanded for a week starting yesterday and the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Mkini
