The show goes on, but not Parliament? asks Syed Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has questioned why Parliament remains suspended while filming for entertainment shows is allowed.

Syed Saddiq was commenting on a video clip of singing competition “All Together Now Malaysia”, which showed its 50 judges standing together without masks on.

According to Astro radio host Haniff Hamzah, the show was pre-recorded and filming ended before Ramadan. Parliament has been suspended since January, when the state of emergency was declared.

“When we filmed this, studio shoots were allowed, with a restricted number of people in the studio,” Haniff said in a tweet.

In a Facebook post addressed to senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Syed Saddiq said all MPs had been vaccinated and were required to wear a mask with a glass panel separating each table.

“But an entertainment show which gathers 50 people without masks can take place?” he asked.

“I am paid with the people’s money. Answer me,” added the Muar MP.

Syed Saddiq said Parliament could reconvene any time with various health and safety measures put in place.

“You can even conduct a swab test once every week for all MPs. We just want the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to realise that this country has a parliament and a democracy.” - FMT
