The Terengganu Umno Youth has suggested for the party’s top leadership to leave the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government if Parliament does not reconvene as soon as possible.
Terengganu Umno Youth chief Tengku Haphiz Tengku Putera (above) said this suggestion is to prevent Umno from getting caught up in politics that goes against one of the palace’s decrees.
“We suggested for Umno to immediately leave this government so that it does not get caught up in politics that goes against the king, and if this government’s stand continues to be non-committal in realising the king’s decree and the rakyat’s demands,” he said in a statement today.
On June 16, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had said Parliament should reconvene as soon as possible after he chaired a special meeting with the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara on the same day.
However, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of law Takiyuddin Hassan had said that even though the palace said Parliament should be reopened as soon as possible, it did not set any fixed dates.
Previously, the national Umno Youth had urged the government to immediately issue a notice to enable Parliament to convene before the end of the emergency scheduled for Aug 1.
Tengku Haphiz said as a government that upholds the principles of parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, they should view the king’s decrees as guidance in resolving the rakyat’s problems, instead of interpreting the message outside of its original context.
“(The act of) delaying the decree from being implemented can be seen as a political action leaning towards treachery.
“Terengganu Umno Youth believes parliament is the official platform for parliamentarians to represent their own constituents in debating and find the most suitable formula in speeding up the vaccination process as well as the rakyat’s economic aid programme during the pandemic,” he said.
Similarly, Kelantan Umno Youth chief Noor Hariri Mohamed Noor stressed that the government’s suggestion of reopening Parliament after the end of the emergency goes against the Rukun Negara, that is loyalty to the king and country as well as the supremacy of the constitution.
“This is an act of betrayal against the institution of the Malay rulers.
“Kelantan Umno Youth steadfastly urges the Umno supreme council and Umno MPs to withdraw from the PN government to avoid compromising with the traitors who go against the Agong’s decree,” he said. - Mkini
