KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah vice president Datuk Junz Wong wants a thorough investigation into a photograph of suspected turtle eggs on the dining table of Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
"Let the authorities investigate," Wong said on Sunday (June 27) when asked about Bung's statement that the opposition was playing dirty politics to smear him.
Wong said it was important for a proper probe to be done.
"At least (it should) remind politicians, especially VVIPs, to abide by the law," he said, adding that he would not immediately comment on Bung's claims.
"I will focus on my work for now as I’m really busy so I’ll give time for the authorities to investigate," Wong added.
A photograph of what looked like turtle eggs on a dining table where Bung and a political associate were seated was uploaded on Facebook on Friday (June 25), triggering a social media storm.
Wong was among the first to highlight the purported turtle eggs in the photograph which was circulated on various social media platforms.
Bung denied that they were turtle eggs and later hit out at Wong for playing dirty politics.
In Sandakan on Saturday (June 26), Bung told reporters that Wong was among the first to share it on Facebook and then removed the photograph. (A check on Wong's Facebook on Sunday showed the image was still there.)
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the state Wildlife Department was carrying out an investigation. - Star
