Yeoh files defence after UUM prof sues over 'defamatory' FB post

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has filed a defence statement in controversial lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff’s defamation suit against her.

This came after the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) professor sued Yeoh over a Facebook post last September.

“I am not afraid because I am on the side of truth. We shall meet in court!” she said in a Facebook post today.

The drama started during the Sabah state election last year when Kamarul posted a campaign banner featuring Yeoh (above) and the words “Peranan Umat Kristian Dalam Pembangunan Negara” (Christians and nation-building).

Commenting on the banner, Kamarul said: “Using religion to win the state election?”.

The DAP lawmaker, in response, accused the lecturer of playing up racial and religious sentiments.

Kamarul then demanded an apology, which the former women, family and community deputy minister refused to give, prompting the lawsuit.

This was not the first time Kamarul and Yeoh have locked horns.

In 2017, Kamarul lodged a police report against Yeoh over her personal biography.

He accused Yeoh, who was then the Selangor state speaker, of alleged proselytisation, claiming she was driving a "Christian agenda".

Last year, he sued five other DAP leaders over comments critical of him after he lodged the police report. - Mkini
