Girl with Down Syndrome believed abused in KL welfare home

A girl with Down Syndrome was believed abused in a welfare home owned by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Kuala Lumpur in the past one year.

Negeri Sembilan Welfare Department (JKM) director Rosnah Sardi said the 13-year-old girl was under the care of Taman Sinar Harapan (TSH) Tuanku Ampuan Najihah in Seremban since 2011 before being handed over to the welfare home of the NGO as an adopted child last year.

According to her, after being exposed of the incident, Pelindung of Kuala Lumpur JKM managed the abuse case of the girl after receiving the order of Kuala Lumpur Family Court to place the girl in a safe place, which is TSH.

“As the girl is disabled (OKU), she has been placed at TSH in the past two days as TSH was the most suitable place to provide care and treatment.

“TSH, an institution for disabled under JKM will provide the best care to the girl to deal with the trauma she suffered,” she told Bernama today.

In this regard, she welcomed members of the public to contact JKM directly if there were suspected cases of child abuse including Talian Kasih at 15999.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief, SAC Saiful Annuar Yusof when contacted confirmed receiving a report on the matter and said an investigation is underway.

Yesterday, a woman in a viral Facebook post claimed the young girl was splashed with hot water and tied when under the care of the NGO welfare home.

According to her, the matter was exposed when the owner, staff and inmates of the welfare home were infected with Covid-19 including the girl who was later treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital for 10 days.
