Kelantan Health Dept: First Delta variant case found in the state

 

The spike in Covid-19 cases in Kelantan for the past few days was caused by Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations as well as a cluster originating from market activities, according to the state's health department.

Kelantan Health Department director Dr Zaini Hussin (above) said they have also detected the first Covid-19 case involving the Delta variant in the state.

“Almost every day we are worried about the rise in cases but we are always monitoring.

“So maybe yesterday there was a rather shocking increase due to Hari Raya activities and so on,” he said.

He was speaking after attending a National Covid-19 Immunisation Outreach Programme at the service centre of Bukit Bunga state assemblyperson Adhan Kechik in Tanah Merah today.

Elaborating on the Delta variant found in the state, Zaini said one Delta variant case was detected in Pasir Puteh and 74 other samples have been taken and sent for testing at the laboratory.

“The samples are expected to have results in about one or two more weeks.

“My advice to everyone is to be careful and comply with the SOPs that have been set because this new variant, as announced by the Health Ministry director-general, has much higher transmissibility,” he said. - Mkini
