The National Task Force (NTF) has once again drawn flak after it labelled undocumented migrants as a threat to national security.
Taking to social media, lawyer Latheefa Koya said it was inhumane for the enforcement unit in charge of border patrols and other enforcement activities to use such language on migrants who were exploited by traffickers.
"This is a heartless damning of a whole category of human beings who’ve been exploited by traffickers and some criminals in high places," the former MACC chief tweeted today.
"The government cannot use language like this. Only people who have lost their humanity will dub this a security issue.
"Stop this now or none of them will come out for vaccination and this will endanger all of us," she added.
Latheefa was commenting on a poster uploaded on the NTF Facebook page with a written message.
"The illegal migrant workers, a threat to the national security. Together, we take care of the national security and sovereignty," read the NTF posting on July 22.
Last month, the task force was taken to task for uploading a controversial poster with the wordings "Ethnic Rohingya Migrants, Your Arrivals Are Uninvited". The poster had been taken down after widespread condemnation.
Civil society groups have been raising concerns about whether the undocumented migrants and refugees in the country would receive the Covid-19 vaccines.
Previously, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin had insisted it would be “impossible” to administer vaccines to individuals who are undocumented, as there would be no way to keep track of their status here.
However, the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that walk-in vaccinations will be opened to all adults in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to "mop up" the remaining adult population who are not registered or are unrecorded, such as undocumented migrants. - Mkini
