Klang Hospital shuts down outpatient services to prioritise Covid-19 patients

The Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang has shut down its outpatient services effective yesterday (July 9) "in preparation to manage Covid-19 patients".

Hospital director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi said among the services affected included its special outpatient clinics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and prescription refills.

In a statement today, he said new appointment dates for both prescription refills and to see a doctor would be sent to patients via SMS.

"Patients are advised to be alert of their SMS notifications so as not to miss their new appointment dates and not have their medicine supply cut off throughout this closure," Zulkarnain said.

HTAR, like many public hospitals in the Klang Valley, has been struggling with a surge in Covid-19 patients.

A HTAR doctor who dealt with Covid-19 patients told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity that the Emergency Department looked like the set for a "disaster movie".

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told Malaysiakini earlier that the ambulatory care centre and house officer quarters at the Klang hospital have been repurposed to allow more beds to accommodate the "sudden surge" in cases.

Selangor Health Department director Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman has also assured that more personnel would be mobilised to HTAR.
