Kuala Kangsar MP apologises over handling of aid request

Kuala Kangsar MP Mastura Mohd Yazid has apologised for her handling of an aid request after receiving widespread criticism from the public and some political leaders.

This was in regard to the viral clip of a recent radio interview by Suria FM.

“I took note of the public's concern over a posting on my social media account and several parties’ videos regarding the viral clip posted by Suria FM a few days ago.

“I hereby apologise for causing discomfort among various parties,” she said in a statement posted on Facebook this afternoon.

However, Mastura (above) said the incident will not shatter her spirit to continue serving the Kuala Kangsar community and expressed hope that everyone will now put their focus back on helping the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, the deputy minister at the Prime Minister’s Department posted a statement and a video, questioning a radio interview clip in which a man claimed a family in her constituency has been starving for two days.

In the video released by Mastura, which has since been deleted, a woman who was allegedly involved in the radio interview can be seen coming forward to deny that her family was starving, and said the events described by the man were entirely untrue.

The statement and the video then received heavy backlash from the public, with some questioning Mastura’s priority in debunking the need for aid in her constituency instead of helping.

Several politicians, including Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Bersatu Women exco member Ainie Haziqah Shafii also voiced their criticism, saying such video revelation is unnecessary.

“Hi YB, my suggestion. Come, help, and go. No need to do investigations as if the family is in the wrong,” Syed Saddiq tweeted in response to Mastura’s video this morning. - Mkini
