Women, Community and Family Development Minister Rina Harun has received flak from netizens for ignoring Covid-19 prevention protocols after a picture of her hand-feeding a burger to the daughter of drummer Fendy Adlun from local band Caliph Buskers went viral.
However, Rina’s aide responded by saying that the girl requested the minister to do so during her visit to the musician’s house in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
When contacted, the aide shared a 15-second video showing Rina trying to hand over a burger to the girl but was told by Fendy, who is blind, that his daughter is also blind and autistic, so she was not able to feed herself.
The girl who sat beside her father was also heard telling Rina, "nak aunty suap (I want aunty to feed me)” and the Titiwangsa MP then obliged.
A photo from the visit that showed Rina feeding the girl a pinched-off piece of the burger had attracted widespread criticisms, including from Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil who cited concerns of Covid-19 infection risks through close contact.
Others on Twitter also said any aid can be delivered without the need for prolonged face to face visits under the current enhanced movement control order period in most parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Separately, it was reported that Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal had also visited Fendi today and handed over assistance for the musician.
According to Bernama, Rina said her ministry will liaise for approval of Fendy's application to stay in a Kuala Lumpur City Hall flat.
Wan Fayshal, meanwhile, pledged to raise funds for Fendy to replace his drum sets which were previously sold to cover his loss of income from performing since the start of the pandemic.
Their visits today were reportedly arranged after Fendy's public appeal for assistance that went viral on social media. - Mkini
