The MACC is investigating allegations by former Malacca chief minister Idris Haron that some Umno leaders in the state were engaged in fraud and had misled Putrajaya about the state's affairs.
The anti-graft body said it takes seriously the Sungai Udang assemblyperson's claims of a swindle on an economic project and alleged lies to the federal government on sand royalty in Malacca.
“In relation to that, parties with information or evidence of corruption are urged to come forward and cooperate with the MACC,” the commission said in a statement today.
This came after Idris (above) dropped a bombshell on Tuesday night during an interview with television news programme Agenda Awani.
He claimed that some Umno leaders in Malacca were behind these corrupt acts and that this led to his decision to rescind his backing for the state government.
Idris came under the spotlight after he and three other assemblypersons withdrew support for former chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
Their withdrawal caused the government to lose its two-seats majority in the state legislative assembly, triggering snap polls.
MACC stressed that failure to report wrongdoings under the MACC Act is a chargeable offence.
The commission added that it will deploy officers to meet with Idris to obtain more information regarding the issue. - Mkini
