‘Dubious expenses’ found in Mara Corp case, says MACC source

An MACC source says the expenses were for goods and services that did not involve Mara Corporation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Several dubious expenses have been uncovered in an investigation into allegations of misuse of Mara Corporation’s corporate credit cards, according to a source with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The source said the management of the company had been asked to come to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya tomorrow to explain the guidelines for the use of the company’s corporate credit cards.

The sources said the MACC investigation had found that there were dubious expenses involving several purchases of goods and services that did not involve the agency, from March to December last year.

He declined to comment further on what goods and services were purchased using the credit cards.

In another investigation into allegations of misconduct and integrity, involving several senior officers of Mara, he said statements from 17 people had been recorded, and 10 others would be called this week.

“We expect that this Thursday, the investigation paper related to this case will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he said.

On Feb 5, MACC confirmed receiving a report on alleged integrity issues involving several senior Mara officers who were subjects of an internal investigation.

On Feb 7, MACC raided Mara and Mara Corporation headquarters, as well as a corporate secretary company, and seized documents consisting of proposal papers and minutes of board meetings, financial documents and payroll, as well as documents concerning human resources. - FMT
