PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian embassy in Kiev, Ukraine will provide shelter for Malaysians still in the Eastern European country.
According to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, there are currently 11 Malaysians in Ukraine.
“I was informed that there are 23 Malaysians registered with our embassy in Kiev, but 12 of them have since returned to Malaysia.
“Our priority is to ensure all Malaysians in Ukraine are safe,” he said in a Tweet.
Ismail added that Malaysia hoped the conflict between Ukraine and Russia would soon be resolved peacefully.
Earlier today, AFP reported that Russian ground forces had crossed into Ukraine from several directions, hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a major offensive.
Russia is allegedly invading Ukraine over its demands to end Nato’s eastward expansion.
Ukrainian officials said Russia was primarily targeting military infrastructure and silos, managing to push 5km deep along the northern frontier. - FMT
