COVID-19 | Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today reiterated the health authority's position on the upcoming Johor state election, saying that it can still go on despite the Omicron wave.
Addressing a press conference earlier today, he said the Omicron Covid-19 variant has not shown symptoms as serious as Delta.
"On the Johor state election, MOH has finalised our standard operating procedures (SOP) recommendations and it has been submitted to the National Security Council and Election Commission.
"MOH is of the view that the state election can go on but under SOP which has been finalised by MOH this morning. It will be announced soon.
"Because so far, based on data which I have mentioned earlier, this Omicron variant did not show severe symptoms as what we had with the Delta variant before this," he said.
Khairy was answering a question whether MOH would recommend a state of emergency to postpone the Johor state election.
The snap polls have to be held within 60 days from Jan 22, which was the date when the Johor state legislative assembly was dissolved. - Mkini
