Warisan, PSB hold unofficial meetings to form Bornean Alliance

Sabah-based Warisan and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) have embarked on a discussion to form Bornean Alliance (Perikatan Borneo) to face the next general election.

PSB presidential council member See Chee How revealed that at least two unofficial meetings were held between his colleague Baru Bian and Warisan president Shafie Apdal (above).

He said the new alliance can be a viable third force or kingmaker in the next polls.

See stressed the importance of forming a political pact particularly when the 15th general election is expected to be called by the year-end.

This would ensure that the interests of Sarawak and Sabah will be taken seriously, he told Utusan Borneo Online in an interview.

The three-term Batu Lintang assemblyperson said Warisan can lead the coalition in Sabah while the political pact will be led by PSB in Sarawak.

"Then we can bring other local parties into the alliance so we can win as many seats as possible in Sarawak and Sabah, as well as several other seats by Warisan in Sabah, and next we can emerge as a viable third force," added See.

Warisan gaining traction

While noting Warisan was gaining traction in the peninsula, he said the Borneo Alliance can be an alternative for the voters too.

"From what I have observed, there is no single party that can garner majority votes to form the (federal) government.

"So, they will need the support from Sarawak and Sabah, looking at the various coalitions that we have now.

"As for PSB, we look at this as the best time for us to push for a coalition in Sarawak so that an individual from Sabah or Sarawak can become the prime minister," See added.

He said the people in the peninsula are fed up with the politics and are looking for other alternatives.

”We are in fact a good role model that can be emulated by those in the peninsula. Our situation is more peaceful and harmonious between ethnic groups. Only a few racial issues affecting us," See added. - Mkini
