2 Covid-19 deaths, lowest in over a year (1,275 cases)

Sixty-six Covid-19 patients are still in ICU, with 36 requiring ventilation.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry reported two Covid-19 deaths yesterday, the lowest number of fatalities recorded in a day for more than a year.

The last time Covid-19 deaths were this low was on April 16, 2021, when the ministry reported two deaths from the virus.

According to the CovidNow website, none of the two deceased reported yesterday were brought-in-dead cases. The death toll stands at 35,569.

This marked a continued downtrend in deaths after the three reported the day before. The number of daily infections and hospital admissions has also been steadily decreasing over the past month.

However, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had said the ministry will be expecting a spike in cases after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration although the majority are expected to be in categories one and two.

There were 1,275 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, of which three were imported, and 2,599 recoveries.

The total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Malaysia stands at 4,417,096, of which 4,391,090 have recovered.

Some 27,454 active cases remain, with 96.2% of these patients in home quarantine. Some 30 patients are in intensive care units while 36 required respiratory assistance. - FMT
