Anti-corruption proposals to be tabled at cabinet meeting

Recommendations by the National Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) on political funding and other issues will be tabled at the next cabinet meeting.

The recommendations to the government will also be tabled at the next meeting of the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this was agreed to during his recent meeting with GIACC director-general Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan.

“The recommendations made by GIACC involve the policy direction on the enactment of the bill related to political funding, the current status of the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023, and the proposed development of the National Good Governance Plan (MyGovernance),” he said.

In a statement today, Wan Junaidi said the meeting also included a discussion on the status of the Ombudsman Bill which was said would be tabled this year.

The minister also proposed for information on the government’s anti-corruption efforts to be intensified by all government agencies.

This is to create a more positive perception of the government’s seriousness in fighting corruption, he said.

He said the move would also improve Malaysia’s position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) in the future.
