PETALING JAYA: A security guard who sent out a voice note claiming there was a tiger on the prowl in Ampang has been detained by police for internet abuse.
Ampang Jaya police chief Farouk Eshak said this came after a complaint that the 51-year-old security guard had done so without proof.
Police said a local man lodged a police report claiming that the tiger sighting was a false alarm and had caused anxiety among residents in the area.
Farouk said police have hence opened an investigation paper for network abuse.
He said the guard, a Bangladesh national, was also found to be without valid identification documents.
Yesterday, the guard claimed he saw the big cat on the prowl near a lamp post in Kemensah Heights, Ulu Kelang.
Officials of the wildlife and parks department have not been able to locate the tiger and Zoo Negara told police there were no reports of any escaped tigers. - FMT
