Covid-19 (May 11): 3,321 new cases, more people hospitalised

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 3,321 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday - the highest since April 27.

New daily infections have been trending up since reaching a recent low of 922 on May 2, as had the number of people hospitalised.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which three were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 4.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 9.6, indicating that such deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,598 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There have been 51 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 in March.

The new deaths were reported in Johor (2), Kedah (2), Pahang (2), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Perak (1).

There are 1,373 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 59 are in intensive care.

Daily admissions yesterday was 649, double the recent low seen on May 2. The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (174) followed by Johor (155) and Sabah (81).

Hospital beds used by Covid-19 patients have reached 1,373, up 47.8 percent compared to May 3 (929 beds used).

Perhaps indicative of Malaysia's high vaccination rate and efficacy of vaccination, the number of Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care - a lagging indicator - was still trending down. - Mkini
