Covid-19 (May 3): New daily cases dip below 1,000

COVID-19 | New daily Covid-19 cases dropped below 1,000 for the first time since March 29 last year.

According to the Health Ministry, 922 cases were reported yesterday while the R-number has gone down to 0.62.

Active cases currently stood at 31,834, down 64.9 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (429)
Kuala Lumpur (120)
Penang (83)
Negeri Sembilan (58)
Perak (41)
Johor (35)
Sarawak (31)
Malacca (28)
Putrajaya (26)
Kedah (22)
Pahang (19)
Sabah (12)
Terengganu (9)
Kelantan (7)
Perlis (1)
Labuan (1)

Another nine deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which five were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 6.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 15.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,564 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 17 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 deaths in March.

Kedah and Perak reported two deaths respectively. Johor, Pahang, Penang, Sarawak and Selangor all reported one death respectively.

There are 929 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 69 are in intensive care.

The number of Covid-19 patients in ICU increased slightly from 66 on May 2.

There were 357 people who were admitted for Covid-19 yesterday, up from 313 the day before.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Johor (109) followed by Selangor (81) and Sabah (48). - Mkini
